Generac generatorsGenerator repair and maintenance for Spring homes.
A standby generator is only useful if it starts when the power drops. Wired Electrical & Generators is a Generac Prestige Dealer and a family-owned, licensed and insured electrical company. Our showroom and shop are at 13910 Alice Road in Tomball, about 30 minutes from Spring (an estimate), and we have served Greater Houston since 2005. Generator repair and maintenance is steady work for our technicians, and we start every job by asking what the unit did, since the symptom usually points toward the cause.
Plenty of Spring homeowners bought a generator after a long outage and then never had it looked at again. That is understandable and it is also how a dead battery or a stale-fuel problem turns into a silent generator on the worst night. You do not need to have bought your unit from us. Call (713) 467-1125 to book a service visit, a repair or a parts question.
What Spring jobs look like.
Neighborhoods where space is tight
Spring has many subdivisions where houses sit close together, and a generator often ends up in a narrow side yard between a fence, an air conditioner condenser and the neighbor's property line. That position has consequences for service. Leaves, mulch and grass clippings pile up against the cabinet, sprinklers spray it, and the exhaust and airflow need clearance. When we service a unit in a tight spot, we look at how it breathes as well as how it runs. If something is crowding the enclosure, we tell you what to move. If your neighborhood has an association, we can describe what we find so you can talk to it.
Natural gas, meters and what runs out
Most Spring homes sit on a street with natural gas service, so generators in town are commonly gas-fueled and draw from the same supply as the stove and water heater. That shifts what we check: regulator and gas connection, whether the line is open, and whether the pressure holds when the generator and the house are both asking for fuel. Propane units, which turn up on larger lots and in the rural edges, bring different questions about tank level and regulators. We confirm which fuel yours is on and check that supply before anything else.
What to look at before you call
If your generator did not start in an outage, you can check a few things without opening anything. The controller should say AUTO, the unit's own breaker should be on, and the fuel valve should be open. Note any fault code on the screen and take a photo of it. Do not open the transfer switch or the electrical panel. Then call with the make, model and the code. A short description lets us arrive with likely parts on the truck, which can save a second trip to Spring.
Service before the season, not after
Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November, and the demand for generator technicians rises sharply once a storm is in the Gulf. Spring owners who book maintenance in the spring tend to have a calmer year. A service visit covers oil and filters, spark plugs, the battery, the enclosure, a test run under load and a look at the transfer switch operation. Our Shield Protection plans add remote monitoring. If your unit ran for days in the last big outage, it has real hours on it and is due for a check now, not next year.

Generator repair and maintenance questions from Spring.
My generator did not come on when the power went out. Why?
Common causes are a weak battery, a tripped breaker, a closed fuel valve or a controller that is not set to AUTO. Check what you safely can, write down any fault code and call us. We can often narrow it down before the visit.
How often should my generator be serviced?
At least once a year. Many owners choose a visit in spring before hurricane season. A unit that ran for several days in an outage should be checked afterward.
Do you work on generators you did not install?
Yes. We service Generac and other brands, including Kohler. If your unit is under warranty, tell us at the start, because coverage depends on the provider.
Can I get Generac parts from you?
Yes. Call with your model and serial number and we will confirm the part. You can order it or pick it up at the Tomball showroom. Work involving wiring, fuel or the transfer switch should be done by a technician.
Is it worth repairing an older generator?
Sometimes. It depends on its age, parts availability and what failed. We will tell you straight when repair makes sense and when replacement is the better plan.
