Emergency electrician

Emergency electrician for Spring homes.

An electrical emergency does not wait for business hours. If an outlet is sparking, a breaker will not stay on, or part of the house has gone dark while the neighbors still have lights, you need to talk to someone now. Wired Electrical & Generators is a family-owned, licensed and insured electrician, and our phones at (713) 467-1125 are open 24/7. We work out of our shop at 13910 Alice Road in Tomball and drive to Spring, roughly 30 minutes away (an estimate that changes with traffic and time of day).

Start with safety. If you see flames or heavy smoke, get everyone outside and call 911. For a hot outlet, a buzzing panel or a burning smell, switch off the affected breaker only if you can reach it while standing on dry ground, then keep people and pets away from the spot and call us. Do not wait to see whether it clears up. A problem that comes and goes is often a loose connection, and loose connections generate heat. We would rather talk it through with you at midnight than see what it did by morning.

Getting to Spring from Alice Road

Most of our trips to Spring run along I-45, the Hardy Toll Road or Spring Cypress Road, and which one is best depends on where you live and what traffic is doing. When you call, give us the cross streets nearest your house as well as the address, because Spring has many look-alike subdivision streets and some addresses have a Spring mailing address but sit in a different spot than you would expect. We will not promise an arrival time over the phone. What we will do is tell you honestly whether the problem is safe to leave until morning and whether it needs a truck now.

Older Spring houses and Old Town

Spring has been built out for decades, and many of its neighborhoods date to the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. Houses that age often show the same trouble when something fails: a panel that was full years ago and then gained extra circuits, a bathroom or kitchen that was remodeled without a matching wiring update, and outlets that are worn out from decades of plugging and unplugging. In the older streets around Old Town Spring, additions and converted rooms can leave wiring that nobody has a map of. After an emergency repair, we tell you what else we saw so the next failure is not a surprise.

Creeks, rain and wet equipment

Spring sits near Spring Creek and has plenty of drainage ditches and low spots, so heavy rain is a regular part of life here. Water is the other way electrical emergencies start. It can run into an outdoor outlet, a meter base, an attic fan or a pool equipment pad. If water has reached any electrical equipment, stay out of it, do not touch the panel with wet hands, and call us. After floodwater or a roof leak, we check what was wet before the power goes back on, because equipment that has been soaked can fail days later, not right away.

House side, utility side and permits

The line from the pole to your meter belongs to the utility, so a downed wire or a damaged service drop is a call to the utility and to 911, and you should stay far away from it. The meter base, mast and panel on the house are on your side, and that is where we work. A repair that replaces a panel, meter base or service wiring generally needs a permit and an inspection before power is reconnected. We handle that with the city or county that covers your address.

Questions we get every week

Emergency electrician questions from Spring.

Do you really answer calls at night and on weekends?

Yes. Our phones at (713) 467-1125 are open 24/7. If the problem can safely wait until morning we tell you so, and if it cannot, we work out how to get someone to you.

What should I do before you arrive?

If there is fire or heavy smoke, leave and call 911. Otherwise, turn off the breaker for the affected circuit only if it is dry and safe to reach, keep everyone away from the damaged spot, unplug nothing that is hot or wet, and do not open the panel cover.

How do I tell if the outage is the utility or my house?

Look outside. If the neighbors are dark too, it is probably a utility outage and you should report it to your electric provider. If only your house is dark, or only part of it, the problem is likely on your side of the meter, and we can help you narrow it down on the phone.

Can you fix a damaged meter base or service mast?

Yes, the house side of the service is our work. The utility has to disconnect and reconnect its own lines, and the repair needs a permit and an inspection, which we arrange.

Will a breaker that keeps tripping hurt anything?

It can. A breaker trips to protect the wiring, so resetting it again and again over a problem can overheat the circuit. If it trips right back after one reset, leave it off and call us.

Do you handle emergencies at apartments and rental houses?

We work on houses and small residential properties. If you rent, call your landlord or property manager as well so someone with authority over the building agrees to the repair.
