Our shop is at 13910 Alice Road in Tomball, and The Woodlands is in Montgomery County, north of us along Interstate 45. We give you our best arrival estimate on the call and say plainly if traffic, storms or flooded roads will slow us down. If there is fire or heavy smoke, leave the house and call 911 first.

The Woodlands

What The Woodlands jobs look like.

Pine trees, power lines and storm damage

The Woodlands is known for tall pines and oaks that grow close to homes, and when a storm or a hard wind comes through, limbs land on service masts, weatherheads and the lines to the house. A bent mast or a pulled-out meter base can leave exposed conductors, so stay well away from it and from anything wet nearby. Report a downed line to the utility and 911. Once the area is safe, we repair the house side: the mast, meter base, panel and wiring that belong to you.

Sorting out house or utility

The electric utility serving your address owns the lines, the transformer and the meter, and the name is on your bill. If the neighbors are dark too, check the utility outage map, because an electrician cannot restore a grid outage. If only your home is affected, or half the house has no power, or lights flicker with no storm, the cause is usually in your own panel or service. Many Woodlands neighborhoods have buried utilities, which means a dead panel with no visible damage is still worth a call.

Larger homes, many circuits

Houses in the villages that make up The Woodlands, from Alden Bridge and Sterling Ridge to Cochran's Crossing, range from older homes with original panels to large newer ones with pools, outdoor kitchens, guest suites and several air conditioners. More equipment means more connections that can loosen and more places for a surge to do damage. After an outage, if an air conditioner will not restart, a pool pump hums, or the garage door opener is dead, switch it off and tell us what you saw. Those details help us bring the right parts the first time.

Permits, covenants and what we handle

The Woodlands is an unincorporated community in Montgomery County, governed by The Woodlands Township, with covenants in each village. A repair that replaces a panel, meter base or service wiring needs a permit and inspection through the office that covers your address, which we confirm before we begin. If an outdoor repair changes how the house looks, check your covenants as well.

Questions we get every week

Emergency electrician questions from The Woodlands.

What should I do first if I smell burning?

If there is fire or heavy smoke, leave and call 911. If not, switch off the breaker for the affected circuit when it is safe to reach, keep people and pets away and call us. Do not keep using an outlet or fixture that smells hot.

Do you take emergency calls from The Woodlands overnight?

Yes. Our phones at (713) 467-1125 are open 24/7. We tell you if the problem can safely wait until morning, and if it cannot, we arrange for an electrician to come out.

A tree limb pulled the wires off my house. What now?

Stay clear of the wires and anything touching them, and call 911 and the utility. Once the utility says the lines are safe, call us to repair the mast, meter base and wiring on your side. The repair needs a permit and an inspection.

Half of my house lost power but the lights in the other half are fine. Why?

That can point to a failed main lug, a bad connection or a lost leg of the service, which can make some equipment run on the wrong voltage. Turn off large appliances and air conditioners and call us.

Does my village or the Township have to approve an emergency repair?

The permit and inspection come from the office that covers your address, and we find out which one it is before starting. Covenant approval, if it applies, is usually about outside appearance. Ask your association if the repair changes how the house looks.

Can you check my panel after a surge?

Yes. After a lightning strike or a power return, we look at the panel, breakers and surge protection, and test the circuits that feed sensitive equipment. We can also add whole-home surge protection at the panel.
