Electrical · Spring

Electrical work for Spring homes, from our Tomball shop.

Spring is about 11-28 minutes without traffic from our Tomball shop.

Spring is not a city. It is an unincorporated area in north Harris County, and the name also covers part of southern Montgomery County. The census-designated place sits inside Houston's extraterritorial jurisdiction. The original town, now Old Town Spring, is at Spring-Cypress Road and Hardy Road.

That matters for electrical work, because a Spring mailing address can land in very different places. The Spring CDP falls entirely inside ZIP 77373. Addresses in 77379, 77388 and 77389 are in Harris County outside the CDP, and 77386 is in Montgomery County across Spring Creek. Some land in these ZIPs lies inside Houston or Oak Ridge North city limits, where that city's permit rules apply. We confirm where your house sits before we plan the job.

What Spring houses and storms ask of the wiring.

Homes from Spring's 1970s and 1980s growth

Subdivisions started growing up around Spring in the 1970s, and the census still shows it. In the Spring CDP, about 47 percent of homes were built between 1970 and 1989, and the median home dates to 1993. In a house from those decades, we check the panel, its breakers and its grounding, and explain what we find.

No city permit office in unincorporated Spring

Spring has no city government, so there is no Spring city hall issuing electrical permits. Harris County's online Permits A-to-Z list has no electrical permit category. State law still applies: anyone you hire for electrical work in Texas must hold a state license, including in unincorporated Spring. The rules differ on each side of Spring Creek and inside a city line, so we check which ones cover your house and take care of any permits and inspections the job needs.

Falling trees and storm damage

Trees come up again and again in National Weather Service storm reports for Spring. In October 2019, thunderstorm winds knocked down trees and cut power in Lexington Woods. On June 21, 2023, a member of the public reported a measured 82 mph gust southwest of Spring, with large pines down onto homes, and a county official reported trees down on homes in the Woodcreek Subdivision. When a tree pulls down your service, we inspect and repair the electrical equipment on your side of the connection.

Panels on low ground near Spring Creek

The Spring Creek gauge near Spring crested at 111.52 feet during Harvey in 2017, just under its 1994 record of 111.6 feet. If you are rebuilding a Harris County floodplain home after substantial damage, or your project there counts as a substantial improvement, county rules set a minimum height for the panel, and we place it to meet them.

Questions

Questions we get from Spring.

My address says Spring but my neighbor's says Klein. Does that change anything?

Not on its own. ZIPs 77379, 77388 and 77389 can use either Spring or Klein as the postal city, and Klein is also an unincorporated community in Harris County. What counts is whether the property sits on unincorporated county land or inside a city, and we confirm that for your address.

Which utility delivers power to Spring homes?

The PUC's Power to Choose site lists CenterPoint Energy Houston Electric as the delivery utility for all five residential Spring ZIPs: 77373, 77379, 77386, 77388 and 77389. That does not rule out a pocket served by another utility, so before any meter or service work, we confirm the utility on your bill.

Is my 1980s house in Spring due for a new panel?

Not by age alone. More than 4,000 homes in the Spring CDP were built in the 1980s, and the year a house was built does not show what shape its panel is in. We open the panel, check it and tell you what needs work and what can stay.

My 77389 house was built after 2010. Is there room in the panel for a Level 2 charger?

Possibly. Nearly half of 77389's homes were built from 2010 to 2019. A Level 2 charger needs its own circuit, so we look at the panel's rating, what already runs on it and the open breaker spaces, then propose the charger circuit.

How far is your Tomball shop from Windrose or the center of Spring?

Without traffic, Windrose Golf Club in 77379 is about 17 minutes from our Tomball shop, and the center of the Spring CDP is about 28 minutes. Rush-hour traffic adds time. We answer (713) 467-1125 24/7, emergency calls included.
