Electrical Panel Upgrade in Spring, TX
Breaker box replacement and 200 amp service upgrades for Spring homes, from 1980s subdivisions to older streets with additions.
Electrical panel upgrade for Spring homes.
Most panel upgrades start with a symptom: a breaker that trips whenever the dryer and the oven run together, a panel with no room left, a fuse box that an insurance company flagged, or a new project such as a pool, a charger or a generator that the old panel cannot carry. Wired Electrical & Generators is a family-owned, licensed and insured electrician and Generac Prestige Dealer, with our shop at 13910 Alice Road in Tomball, about 30 minutes from Spring (an estimate). We have served Greater Houston since 2005.
Spring has housing from many decades, and panel needs vary with the era. We begin every job with a free estimate that looks at the panel, the meter and the loads you want to add, and we explain which parts of the work are required and which are choices.
What Spring jobs look like.
Houses from the 1970s through the 1990s
A large share of Spring was built in these decades, when a house had one air conditioner, a gas range and far fewer electronics. Many of these homes have since added a second system, a remodeled kitchen, a hot tub or a home office, all on the original panel. The result is often a panel that is full, with tandem breakers squeezed in to make room. We open the panel, identify the brand and condition and count what is on it. Some panels have known problems and need to be replaced, while others are sound and just need a subpanel for the new load.
Old Town Spring and older lots
Houses near Old Town Spring and some of the older lots in the area can have wiring that has been modified several times, with unlabeled circuits and the occasional junction box hidden behind a panel or a ceiling. A service upgrade there is a good time to sort the circuits out, ground the system properly and label every breaker. We tell you what is code-required for the permit and what is a recommendation. For historic or character properties, we also discuss where a new meter base and mast will sit so the front of the house is not spoiled more than it has to be.
Newer homes and heavy loads
In the newer parts of Spring, homes are more likely to have 200 amp service from the start, but the load has grown. A home with two air conditioners, an electric range, a tankless water heater, a pool and an EV charger can use every slot. We calculate the actual load and then decide among a subpanel, load management, or a larger service. The aim is a fix sized for the problem, not the largest box on the truck. Surge protection at the panel is a sensible addition at any age.
Permits and the utility
A panel upgrade needs an electrical permit and an inspection from the city or county that covers your address, and Spring addresses can fall under different authorities, so we confirm which one applies before quoting. We pull the permit and schedule the inspection. If the meter base or service changes, your electric utility has to disconnect and reconnect, and reconnection happens after the work passes. We tell you in advance how long the power will be off and what to expect on the day.

Electrical panel upgrade questions from Spring.
How do I know my panel needs to be replaced?
Signs include breakers that trip often, warm or discolored breakers, a burning smell, no empty slots, fuses, or a panel brand with a known problem. A visit is the surest way to tell, since some panels look bad and are fine.
Will I need a permit?
Inside city limits, yes: a panel change needs an electrical permit and an inspection. Outside them, we confirm what applies to your address. We pull it with the office that covers your address and schedule the inspection.
How long will the power be off?
It is off while the old panel is replaced, and we give you the window before we start. It takes longer when the meter base or service also changes, because the utility reconnects after the inspection.
Can I add a panel instead of replacing mine?
Often, yes. A subpanel can add room for new circuits when the main panel and service are in good shape. We check the total load first.
Should I upgrade before adding solar, a generator or a charger?
Often it is worth checking. New equipment adds load, and a full or outdated panel can limit what is safe. We look at the whole picture and tell you whether one visit or two makes sense.
Do you give free estimates?
Yes. We look at the panel and meter and explain the options in writing before any work begins.
