Electrical · Houston

A licensed electrician for Houston homes, based just up Highway 249.

Houston is about 30 to 45 minutes from our Tomball shop, depending on traffic.

Houston is a lot of different cities in one. A 1950s bungalow inside the Loop, a 1980s ranch in Spring Branch, a new build off Highway 290 and a townhome in the Heights all draw power differently, and the right fix for one is the wrong fix for another. Wired is a family-owned electrical company based in Tomball, and the northwest side of Houston is the closest part of the city to our shop.

We send licensed electricians who have worked in all of those house types, and we look at the panel, the wiring and the load before we tell you what to do. If the answer is a small repair, that is what we recommend. If it is a bigger job, we show you why.

Houston

What Houston wiring has to put up with.

Older homes inside and near the Loop

Many Houston neighborhoods were built from the 1930s through the 1970s, and the electrical systems in those houses were sized for a time before central air in every room, microwaves, home offices and car chargers. We see small panels, crowded breakers, ungrounded outlets and old wiring that has been added to over the years. A load check and a panel review is usually the first step before adding anything new.

Flooding and storms

Houston lives with heavy rain, flooding and hurricane season, and electrical equipment takes the hit. After a flood or a long outage we inspect the panel, outlets and the generator or surge protection, because water and power surges can leave damage you cannot see. Whole-home surge protection at the panel is a good upgrade to make before storm season.

Newer homes and new loads

On the northwest side, along Highway 290 and Beltway 8, newer houses are adding Level 2 EV chargers, pool equipment and outdoor kitchens. Those jobs usually need a dedicated circuit and sometimes a panel upgrade. We check the capacity first so you are not surprised on install day.

Permits in the City of Houston

Most panel changes, new circuits and charger installs inside the City of Houston need an electrical permit. We pull the permit and schedule the inspection for you. For Houston-area addresses outside the city limits, we confirm what applies to your address. Work there still has to meet the state-adopted electrical code and be done by a licensed electrician.

Questions

Questions we get from Houston.

Which part of Houston does Wired cover?

We are based in Tomball and cover the north and northwest side of Houston most often, including areas along Highway 290, Beltway 8 and Interstate 45 north. We also take larger jobs across the wider metro, so call us with your address.

Do I need a permit for a panel upgrade in Houston?

Almost always. Panel changes and new circuits are normally permitted and inspected. We pull the permit and schedule the inspection as part of the job.

Can you check my electrical system after a flood or storm?

Yes. We inspect the panel, outlets and protective devices, and tell you plainly what is safe and what needs replacing. Do not switch on a panel that has been under water.

Do you work on older houses with small panels?

Yes, we do panel work on older Houston homes. We check the load, the condition of the panel and the wiring before recommending anything.

How do I choose a good electrician in Houston?
