Conroe's 2025 generator policy
Since September 1, 2025, the City of Conroe has applied Texas Senate Bill 1252 to home backup power. A new residential generator up to 50 kW needs a Residential Electrical Service permit, with no plans required. The city inspection covers the main or emergency disconnect and the grounding and bonding of the service equipment. It also covers the transfer switch when it is part of the service equipment.
A separate permit for the gas line
Under the same city policy, new or modified gas piping for a generator needs its own Residential Plumbing Gas permit. It is inspected under the International Residential Code, with a leak test. Wired handles both permits and the inspections that follow.
