EV Charger Installation in Houston, TX
Level 2 home charging for Houston garages, driveways and carports, planned around your panel and installed by licensed electricians.
EV charger installation for Houston homes.
A good EV charger installation depends on where the car parks, how far that spot is from the panel and how much capacity the panel has left. Wired Electrical & Generators is a family-owned, licensed and insured electrician. Our shop is at 13910 Alice Road in Tomball and we have served Greater Houston since 2005. Houston is a service area for us, and we say so plainly so there are no surprises about scheduling.
We install Level 2 chargers, including Tesla charger installation with the Tesla Wall Connector. Every charger gets its own dedicated circuit, permitted and inspected where the city requires it. Call (713) 467-1125 and we will give you a free estimate once we have looked at your panel and your parking spot.
What Houston jobs look like.
Street parking, carports and detached garages
Many older Houston houses, especially in the Heights and nearby neighborhoods, have a detached garage at the back of a narrow lot, a carport or only a driveway. The panel may be at the front of the house, which makes for a long run to the car. The route could go through an attic, under the house or in a trench along the side. We pick it based on what the structure allows and explain the options before anything is cut.
Full panels in mid-century ranch houses
Brick ranch houses on the north and northwest side of Houston often have a panel that is nearly full. A charger can draw power for hours, so the circuit has to be sized for a sustained load. We run the load numbers first. The answer might be a charger on a modest circuit, a load management device, a subpanel or a service upgrade, and we tell you which before you buy equipment.
Townhomes and shared parking
Houston has many townhome communities where parking is in a shared lot, a tuck-under garage or a driveway on a tight lot. If your home has an HOA or a shared meter room, you may need the association's approval. We can describe the work in writing for the board and look at where the charger and the conduit would run.
Outdoor mounting and wet weather
A charger on an exterior wall or a carport post sees heat, rain and flooding. We confirm the unit is rated for where it will be mounted, mount it above the ground and think about where the cord lies. Houston's heavy rains also make good grounding and weatherproof connections important.
Permits in Houston
Where the city requires it, a new dedicated circuit gets an electrical permit and an inspection. In the City of Houston, that goes through the city's permit process, and for addresses outside the city it is the county or city that covers them. We pull the permit and schedule the inspection.

EV charger installation questions from Houston.
Do you install EV chargers in Houston?
Yes. Our shop is in Tomball and Houston is a service area, with the north and northwest side easiest for us to reach. Call (713) 467-1125 with your address and we will tell you how we would schedule an estimate.
Should I choose a hardwired or plug-in charger?
Hardwired chargers connect straight to the circuit and suit outdoor spots and higher output. Plug-in chargers use a 240-volt outlet, which lets you unplug and take the charger with you. Either way the circuit is dedicated.
Will an older Houston panel handle a Level 2 charger?
Sometimes it can and sometimes it cannot. It depends on the capacity left after your existing loads. We check first, and if it is short we explain whether a subpanel, load management or a service upgrade is the answer.
Can you install the Tesla Wall Connector I already bought?
Yes. We install the Wall Connector and other Level 2 chargers, whether you have bought one or are still choosing.
Does a home EV charger need a permit in Houston?
Where the city requires it, a new dedicated circuit gets an electrical permit and an inspection. We pull the permit with the office that covers your address and schedule the inspection.
Can I charge in a townhome with an HOA?
Often, but you may need the association's approval and a spot where the wiring can reach. We can look at the parking and the meter location and describe the work for the board.
