Electrical Panel Upgrade in Magnolia, TX

Panel and service upgrades for Magnolia homes and acreage, planned around wells, shops, long runs and the loads they carry.

Electrical panel upgrade

Electrical panel upgrade for Magnolia homes.

In Magnolia, an electrical panel often serves more than a house. It may feed a well pump, a barn, a workshop, a gate and a pool, all spread across a few acres. When that panel runs out of room or capacity, the fix is rarely just a bigger box. Wired Electrical & Generators is a family-owned, licensed and insured electrician and Generac Prestige Dealer. Our shop is at 13910 Alice Road in Tomball, about 30 minutes from Magnolia (an estimate), and we have served Greater Houston since 2005.

Magnolia has newer subdivisions as well as older farmhouses and rural lots, and the work looks different in each. We start with a free estimate and a close look at the panel, the meter location and the loads on the property.

Magnolia

What Magnolia jobs look like.

Meters at the road, panels at the house

On many rural lots the meter is at the road or on a pole and the house is a long way back. The wire that connects them has to be big enough for the distance, or the voltage at the house sags under load. When we plan a service upgrade on acreage, we map the whole run: where the meter sits, how the feed travels to the house, how it is protected, and where grounding is needed. A new panel at the end of an undersized feed does not fix the problem it was meant to solve.

Wells, septic and barn feeds

Rural properties around Magnolia commonly have a well pump and a septic system with its own electrical needs, along with barns and shops that have their own subpanels. These loads add up and often were added one at a time over years. We lay out the main panel, the shop feed, the well circuit and any pump or aerator circuits as one plan. Where an outbuilding is fed from the house, we check wire size, protection and grounding at each building. That is how the property ends up on one coherent system instead of several patches.

Newer subdivisions and growing loads

Magnolia is also home to newer neighborhoods, where houses typically come with a 200 amp panel and clean wiring. The pressure there is different: a bonus room, a second air conditioner, a pool, a charger in the garage or a generator. Often a subpanel or a load calculation settles the question, and we say so when a full upgrade is not needed. If you are planning a standby generator, tell us, because the transfer switch will sit beside the panel and the layout matters.

Permits: city or county

Some Magnolia addresses are inside the city and many are in unincorporated Montgomery County, so the office that issues the permit depends on where your address falls. We confirm which one before we quote, pull the permit and schedule the inspection. Your electric utility reconnects service after the work passes, and because more than one provider can serve this area, your bill tells you which one to contact. We tell you ahead of time what the outage window will be.

Questions we get every week

Electrical panel upgrade questions from Magnolia.

Can you move the meter or the panel?

Often, yes, but it depends on the utility's requirements and the layout of the property. We look at it on the estimate visit and explain what is involved.

My shop is far from the house and the lights dim when the compressor starts. Why?

This can mean the feed is too small for the distance or the connections are loose. We measure and check before recommending anything.

Do I need a permit?

Yes, a panel or service change needs an electrical permit and an inspection. We confirm which office covers your address, pull the permit and schedule the inspection.

How long will the power be off?

Power is off while the panel is swapped, and we tell you the window beforehand. It lasts longer when the meter or service changes, since the utility reconnects after inspection.

Can you add a circuit for a well pump?

Yes. We check the pump's requirements, the distance and the protection, and design the circuit before any work begins.

Do you give free estimates?

Yes. We look at the property and explain the options in writing before work starts.
