Standby power for Bunker Hill Village after Ike, the derecho and Beryl.

Bunker Hill Village is a drive of about 40 to 50 minutes, depending on traffic, from our Tomball shop.

Houston-area outages have been long and large. Hurricane Ike in September 2008 knocked out about 2.15 million of CenterPoint Energy's 2.26 million customers, and full restoration took 18 days. On May 16, 2024, a derecho left more than a million customers in the Greater Houston area without power. Less than two months later, Hurricane Beryl affected 2.26 million CenterPoint customers. Under a canopy of mature trees like Bunker Hill's, a fallen limb on an overhead line is all it takes.

Wired Electrical & Generators is a Generac Prestige Dealer and a family-owned company in Tomball, in business since 2005. We keep units in stock, size the generator for free in your home, and handle the permits and inspections the installation needs.

Bunker Hill Village

What Bunker Hill asks of a generator install.

A 70 decibel limit at the property line

Bunker Hill's standby generator requirements, updated in August 2026, set a maximum sound level of 70 dB at any time, measured at the property line. That turns placement into a sound question. We compare the unit's published sound rating with the distance to each lot line before we pick a spot, so the generator fits the limit with room to spare.

Out of the front yard and out of sight from the street

The village does not allow a generator in the required front yard, and it cannot be visible from a public or private street. No part of the generator or its wiring may sit in an easement or right-of-way, and no roof or overhang may cover any part of the enclosure. The foundation has to be at least 18 inches from other structures, or farther if the manufacturer calls for it.

Three parts to a typical permit

According to the village, a typical generator permit has three parts: electrical, plumbing for the gas line and gas turn-on, and foundation. Some units ship with a prefabricated pad, so the foundation permit may not apply. If the house needs a gas meter upgrade, the application has to say so, and the city assigns the new meter address for the CenterPoint request.

Third-party electrical inspection under state law

The village's guidance sheet says that under Senate Bill 1252, the city cannot inspect the electrical side of a residential backup system of 50 kW or less. A master electrician or Texas registered engineer certifies that work instead, while the city keeps authority over gas piping, placement and noise. A load analysis, the generator specifications and a one-line diagram must be posted with the permit at the job site.

Questions

Questions we get from Bunker Hill Village.

Can my generator go beside the driveway near the street?

Usually not. Bunker Hill does not allow generators in the required front yard or anywhere they can be seen from a street, so most units end up at the side or rear of the house.

How loud can a standby generator be in Bunker Hill Village?

The village limit is 70 dB at the property line at any time. We check the unit's rating and the distance to your lot lines before recommending a location.

Who inspects the electrical work on a home generator here?

For residential systems of 50 kW or less, the village says a third party such as a master electrician or registered engineer handles the electrical inspection, and the city still inspects the gas piping.

How long does the job take?

How long the permit takes depends on Bunker Hill, and once it is issued the install usually takes one day. Our new air-cooled Generac installs include a free 10-year warranty.

Storm-Ready install package

$2,000 off a generator install. While supplies last.

It only comes off the units on our floor, so when they're gone, it's gone. New air-cooled Generac installs come with a free 10-year warranty, and financing is there if you want it. Permit timing depends on your city or county. The install itself is usually one day.
