A Generator Maintenance Checklist for Houston Homeowners

What you can do: look for debris, leaves or anything stacked against the unit, keep the area around it clear, and check the display for fault messages. What a technician should do: change the oil and filters, test the battery, inspect the unit and the transfer switch, and run it under load, following the manufacturer's service schedule. Keep a record of each visit, because some warranties expect it.

If you see a fault code, hear unusual noise, or the unit did not start in a recent outage, call us rather than waiting for the next storm.

Questions we get every week

Ask us anything. These come up most.

How often should a generator be serviced?

Follow the manufacturer's schedule for your unit, which is at least once a year for most home standby generators.

Can I do the maintenance myself?

You can keep the area clear and watch for fault messages. Service work and load testing should be done by a trained technician.
