2023 Hurricane Preparations
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is predicting between 12-17 named storms with 5-9 becoming hurricanes, and 1-4 escalating into major hurricanes in the Atlantic Ocean this year.
How to prepare for hurricane season in Houston:
- Create an evacuation plan. Check out the Harris County Flood Map.
- Stock your home with supplies should you shelter in place. Your hurricane prep shopping list should include non-perishable food items, water, and medicine for each member of your family to last for a minimum of 4 days – don’t forget your pet’s food! Batteries, flashlights, candles, and a battery-powered radio are also needed when electricity goes out.
- Get a better understanding of terms used by meteorologists. Read more here.
- Ensure that your generator has had maintenance in the past 6 months so that it functions properly during power outages. Schedule your maintenance appointment – CLICK HERE
